Amazon.com Product Description Record studio-quality audio directly to your computer via USB with the CAD U37 side-address condenser microphone--a great choice for both vocal and instruments as well as for creating podcasts and voiceovers for videos. Compatible with both Windows and Mac OS operating systems, you can simply plug the U37 into your PC and start recording. The U37 has two switches on the front. The first switch allows you to decrease the sensitivity of the microphone so the sound quality is clear for extremely loud sounds. For example, the switch should be in the "-10" position for loud voices, percussion and other high sound pressure level devices. The "0" position should be used for normal voices and string instruments. The second switch on the U37 is designed to reduce pickup of deep-bass sounds. The switch should be in the "Normal Bass" mode in most cases. However, if you want to remove wind noise, ventilation noise, or decrease the low frequencies in a recording, the switch should be in the "Bass Reduction" position. Good sound, very minor lag August 30, 2010 M. Frankland (Greensboro, NC) I plugged it in and it worked. No drivers or firmware to deal with (OSX).
I was expecting terrible lag since this is a USB mic, but its very reasonable- its like hearing a little reverb. I can monitor my live voice and not get confused from hearing the delay. This is much better than I was expecting- after seeing youtube videos with up to a half second delay for USB mics.
Fit and finish materials are pretty good. The sound has been great for my purposes- which are screen casting and a lot of VoIP.
I'm not a fan of the blue status light. It blinks on the mic when its an active input source. Since this is a side-address mic, it blinks right back in your face. Its fairly bright too. I will be covering it up with electrical tape soon. Background ambient noise has not been an issue, but I am not using the included stand. Instead I have a homemade scissor arm & shockmount.
The base/stand attachment is very similar to the RHODE Podcaster. They may share manufacturing internals.
Not for Music August 29, 2010 K. Phaneuf (Detroit, Michigan) This is a fine microphone if you're using it for voice-over or podcasting - it sounds pretty crisp and clear and it's inexpensive as well. The problem is that it markets itself as a microphone to record music, but the latency is so great that it's virtual unusable for that purpose.
Don't buy this microphone if you want to record music. Otherwise, have at it.
Sounds great, but... August 21, 2010 C. Wiesel (PA) It records with amazing clarity for the price, but with any USB mic... you will no doubt encounter latency. I can't record multiple tracks with vocals because this mic has about a half second delay. It's almost impossible to match up your tracks... which makes it virtually useless unless you want to record single tracks.
GREAT BUY August 20, 2010 constant user all the people who had problems with ambient noise obviously didnt deselect the AG7 box in the settings for the mic, that GREATLY reduces sensitivity, if your looking for somethin useful and worth the money, buy this mic
Microphone August 15, 2010 sb-market The microphone works just fine. Very little distortion. Very loud. Mike placement is important. Clear and precise
